Sites: Nestos river at Paradisos Village (Northeastern Greece)

May 11th 2013

On a road trip surveying waterways with friends Elias Dimitriou and Tasos Papadopoulos from the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR). First stop, the lower Nestos River. Elements of the once vast riparian forests still linger. Looking at the details....lots of the trees are poplar hybrids from past plantations, and even some aliens such as Acer negundo and Amorpha fruticosa are common. This site is immediately next to the village of Paradisos. The springs at the village were a few decades ago a frequented road-stop on the old highway east towards Constantinople. Springs with beautiful waters.
